We are a private, independent counselling and psychotherapy centre with a large team of counsellors, psychotherapists and clinical psychologists and can help you find the one that’s right for you.

Alternatively, you can see the profiles of all our therapists on our “Meet our Therapists” page and the fees they charge. They all offer an initial appointment which allows you to get a sense as to whether counselling or therapy with them might be helpful before deciding. We also offer low cost counselling from our student counsellors on placement from the university.

Making an initial appointment with one of our therapists - by phone or online

Coming into counselling or therapy can be daunting, and we undertsand this, and so our therapists offer an intial appointment which allows you to get a sense as to whether counselling or therapy with a particular therapist might be helpful. From here the therapist will suggest you have a think about the session and make direct contact with them if you decide you would like to continue to see them. The fee for the intial appointment is the same as any further appointments you may have with them and you can see all our therapists fees on their personal profile under "Meet our Therapists". We also offer low-cost counselling from our student counsellors who are on placement from the University of Suffolk and Essex.

If you would like to make an initial appointment with one of our therapists - there are three ways of doing this;

  • You can phone the centre - 01473 218541 and speak to our Therapy Services Manager, Poppy Harvey-Lee, who will be pleased to discuss with you how we can help and give you more information on the services we can offer. If you decide you would like to make an initial appointment, she can talk you through the process and let you know who is available and the appointments they have - she can also book the appointment with your preferred therapist, if an appointment is available.
  • Alternatively, you can email the centre on and request an appointment. Poppy Harvey-Lee, our Therapy Services Manager will respond as soon as possible.
  • You can also now view and book available appointments online by clicking on "Make an Appointment" and choosing the type of therapy from the drop down menu and a list of the available appointments will display. If you would like to know that therapist's fee and read more about them you can find that information on their personal profile under "Meet our therapists". If you would like to proceed with the appointment, you can click on the chosen appointment and a message form will appear - you can send a message to the therapist, who will respond and confirm the appointment with you.

Low cost counselling

At the Stephenson Centre we have carefully selected student / trainee counsellors on clinical placement who can see individuals at a far lower cost than a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist. These are trainee counsellors and CBT therapists usually in their second or final year of training who are required to see individuals as part of their qualifying - they are able to deal with a wide range of emotional difficulties including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, bereavement, dependencies. - fees for a student / trainee counsellor are £15 per session. See our fees page for a list of all our fees.

If you would like to see one of our student / trainee counsellors, you will first be invited to see one of our senior qualified counsellors or psychotherapists for an initial appointment. This is to ensure the student / trainee counsellor is able to adequately support you - the fee for this initial appointment is also £15.

We aim to offer you an initial appointment for counselling or psychotherapy in Ipswich, Suffolk at the Stephenson Centre, within 48 hours of your request.
