Perinatal Psychotherapist
Nicola is an experienced therapist offering time limited psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Nicola primarily works with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, low mood or depression, intrusive thoughts, anger, birth trauma, loss and difficulties bonding with their baby during the perinatal period. Being pregnant and having a baby can sometimes bring unique and often unexpected challenges to our mental health, our identity and our relationships. We are more vulnerable to experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression during this life stage and getting the right support can make a big difference to our experience of pregnancy and parenthood.
Nicola has been supporting the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new mothers and fathers over the last decade both 1:1 and in groups. With lived experienced as a military spouse she has also supported members of the Armed Forces community with the specific additional needs and challenges faced by serving members and their families during their journey to becoming parents and raising their families.
Nicola has worked in NHS Talking Therapy services and mental health charities. She also volunteers as a counsellor with the charity MumsAid, a specialist mental health service for pregnant women and new mums.
Nicola has an MSc in Counselling and CBT and is a British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) member and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). She has specialist training in birth trauma and baby loss.
